Should One Seek Truth or Happiness? by Lonnie Lee Best |
|
If there are no eternal consequences for our actions, then the pursuit of morality is merely one of unfounded preference. Under this assumption, the only incentives to be "moral" are those of worldly consequence (physiological, psychological, emotional, legal, political, etc.). Under this scenario, the pursuit of happiness should be our only concern. However, if what we do here on earth, determines the conditions of an eternal afterlife, one had better know how his/her actions affect this eternal afterlife. Under this scenario, the knowledge of truth can aid you in securing the conditions of this afterlife. |
